Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, and the controls you have. Written to match the App Store privacy label for the Goliard app.

Last updated July 8, 2026

The short version: Goliard collects the minimum needed to run a personal city guide — an account, what you ask and save, and (only if you allow it) your location to sort places by distance. We do not sell your personal information. Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your card.

Who we are

This policy covers the Goliard mobile app and this website (goliard.app), operated by Goliard. Questions: privacy@goliard.app.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — your name, email address, and phone number when you create an account or sign in.
  • Your activity in the app — the venues you save, Tabs you build, and the questions you ask Boswell, so the app can remember your haunts and improve its recommendations.
  • Support messages — anything you send us directly.

Information collected automatically

  • Location — only if you grant permission, and used to rank nearby venues and answer "near me" requests. You can turn it off any time in iOS Settings.
  • Usage and device data — basic diagnostics and analytics (app version, device type, crash logs, and how features are used) to keep the app working and improve it.

Payments

Subscriptions and any voice credits are purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment and shares only the transaction status with us. We never receive your payment card details.

How we use your information

  • To provide recommendations, Boswell answers, and saved content.
  • To operate accounts, subscriptions, and support.
  • To keep the service secure and diagnose problems.
  • To improve curation and features in aggregate. We do not use your identity to influence what is curated.

How your questions to Boswell are handled

Answering a Boswell request may involve sending the text of your question to a third-party AI provider to generate a response. We send the query and relevant curated venue data — not your name, email, or payment details. We do not sell these conversations.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers who help us run Goliard, and only as needed:

  • Google Firebase (Google LLC) — authentication, database, storage, and hosting.
  • Apple — app distribution and payments.
  • Our AI provider — to generate concierge answers, as described above.
  • Reservation partners (such as OpenTable) — when you choose to book, so the booking can be completed.

We do not sell your personal information.

Retention

We keep account information while your account is active. Delete your account and we remove or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records for legal or security reasons.

Your choices

  • Turn location off in iOS Settings at any time.
  • Access, correct, or delete your account data by emailing privacy@goliard.app.
  • Unsubscribe from any email with the link in that email.

Children

Goliard is intended for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

We will update this policy as the app evolves and post the new date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app.
